You Don’t Need to Be Ready to Start |PhysioGym Field Notes

Every day, we meet different seniors.

Sharing two small moments today


The first, Aunty A, in her 70s.

She walked up to our counter to ask about training.


Politely, She shared that she feels her muscles slowly getting weaker,

and wanted to know how to prevent further loss.

We brought her around and explained how resistance training helps maintain muscle.


She nodded.


Then she said she has osteopenia.

She was worried exercise might harm her bones.

We told her,the body responds to what you do.

Use it, or you lose it.

Proper resistance training helps you keep both muscle and bone.


She nodded again.

Then she mentioned discomfort in her back.

We explained that with her condition, that can happen.


But there’s no need to worry.

We have physiotherapists here, and programs designed to support the spine,

so the body can slowly support itself again.


Before leaving, she said,“I’ll think about it.”

The second, Aunty B, in her 80s.

She came with a friend.

Walking wasn’t very stable.

She had a walking stick.

But she was ready.


On her first session, we worked on glute activation, sit to stand, lifting the knee higher while walking.


Every movement,she focused and followed through.

“I don’t want to think so much,” she said.

“Just tell me what to do. I want to improve.”

One month later.

The last time we heard from Aunty A,

she was asking what kind of sports shoes she should prepare.


Aunty B has completed at least 3 coached sessions and 7 self-training visits.

She has started moving around the centre without her walking stick, even going up and down stairs.


Sometimes the difference is not age, and not condition.

Simply, have you started yet?

Many people will think that they need to be ready, ruling out all problems, everything in place only can start to do resistance training.


But the body doesn't wait.


Every moment you spend thinking, your muscle is losing, balance is declining, together with your confidence.

If you want your body to improve, what you need most is to start today, not any other answer, promise or anything that makes you fel ready.


Only when you begin, will your body begin to respond, and catch up with what you want to achieve.
